Montech is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Over the years, the company has developed from a system manufacturer for the watch industry into a leading supplier of belt conveyors, aluminum framing systems, and transfer systems. Together with CEO Daniel Pauli, we will take a brief journey back in time and look at the past, the present, and the future.

Daniel Pauli, what’s the secret of Montech’s success?

The secret of our success is mainly our employees. We have many long-term employees who maintain our values at all times – even in times of change. In addition, the family that owns the company has contributed a lot to the company’s stability and success over the years. Even in difficult times, they have supported us without ifs and buts and shown that they have the necessary confidence in us.

What values and principles have helped build Montech’s strong corporate culture?

We focus all our thinking and actions on our customers. We are a strong and reliable partner to them. We also strive for innovation and precision, quality and care. We act creatively, flexibly, and responsibly, and we support our employees.

What are the most significant milestones of the last 60 years?

In the 1990s, we decided to leave system engineering behind and refocus on the components business. Over the course of all these years, we have had to (re)set our course again and again. The company’s success today is the result of some good decisions.

What has changed since 1964?

All our processes are much more efficient today than they used to be. This is the only reason why we can compete internationally as a Swiss company.

What challenges or crises has Montech survived in the past 60 years?

Our first major challenge was the collapse of the mobile phone market. Later, we suffered from the collapse of the solar industry. After that, the financial crisis and the raising of the EUR minimum exchange rate against the Swiss franc by the Swiss National Bank made our lives difficult. When we had recovered from this, the coronavirus pandemic was next. We are currently feeling the effects of the wars and also the shift from internal combustion engines toward electromobility. But, instead of struggling with these crises, we have always used them to drive new product innovations and put ourselves on solid footing for the future.

What are you particularly proud of as CEO?

I am proud that we have survived all the crises and we have been able to determine the right course in each case. Today, Montech presents itself as an enormously healthy, successful, and financially strong company. It is also great to observe the positive effect of training young people on our company and our corporate culture. As a result, we have been able to attract a variety of specialists, something that has also contributed to keeping the company young and innovative.

What is your vision for Montech?

We practice good Swiss modesty with regard to our visions. I would like to continue on the successful path we are on now. But we are far from achieving our goal. The potential for product innovation and growth is huge.

Will new products be added to the range in 2024?

We will add some new components and features to our new MPS aluminum framing system. In addition, we are expanding our conveyor technology to include a versatile range of roller conveyors. And our customers can look forward to some new functions in the online configurator.

How will the 60th anniversary be celebrated?

The celebrations are still in the planning stage. However, our employees will definitely be the focus of the anniversary.

What do you wish the company for its anniversary and for the future?

I hope that we will also manage future crises well thanks to solid and down-to-earth work. I will do my utmost to ensure that our employees feel at home and develop, and that we can move toward a successful future together.
